Is Speaker Production Typically Sustainable?

At Akkurat Audio our goal is to get as close to being sustainable as possible, we recognize that some areas of sustainability is currently not achievable and the journey is long.

Speaker production, however, involves several unsustainable processes, such as the use of precious metals, exotic materials, and toxic substances in capacitors and drivers. As a result, we do not associate sustainability with these materials at Akkurat Audio.

That said, manufacturers can choose components that help reduce CO2 emissions, minimize toxic processes and by-products, and prioritize short transport distances to production. Furthermore a well managed waste-sorting procedure goes a long way in minimizing unwanted trash in the wrong bin and lastly only produce when you have an order.

What do these considerations lead to?

Based on these considerations, Akkurat Audio has chosen to collaborate with the following suppliers:

• Dana Lim – Wood glue.
• Monacor – Screws.
• Mundorf – Crossover components, internal wiring, AMT tweeters, speaker filling and terminals, etc.
• Purifi-Audio – Transducers.

It is possible to use sustainable materials, such as PEFC-certified wood, which supports responsible forestry. At Akkurat Audio, we use MDF from sustainable forests in Finland & Sweden.

Waste Sorting:

As a small company, we have a simple yet effective waste sorting system. While we don’t use advanced equipment, we sort waste into categories such as paper, plastic, glass, metal, electronics, hazardous waste, and general waste. This waste is regularly processed and sent to the nearest recycling center. We are committed to continuously improving our processes and optimizing waste management as we grow, with the goal of reducing our environmental footprint.
